Xi Jinping Advocates Enhanced Tech Collaboration with Egypt in Cairo Meeting

During his recent visit to Cairo, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of strengthening ties and enhancing cooperation with Egypt, showcasing the enduring relationship between the two nations. Accompanied by his wife, Peng Liyuan, Xi was warmly received by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his spouse. This visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt.

In a statement released prior to his arrival, Xi highlighted the resilience of the China-Egypt relationship amid global changes. He urged renewed efforts to bolster the comprehensive strategic partnership and explore new avenues for collaboration. Both nations, he noted, are focused on significant national development goals and should synchronize their strategies to achieve them. Xi advocated for enhanced cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, emphasizing the need for practical projects that promise sustained economic benefits.

Xi also called for expanding collaboration in sectors such as education, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, sports, and archaeology. He believes that increased exchanges in these areas would foster better mutual understanding and strengthen the bond between the people of both countries. Furthermore, Xi underscored the importance of mutual support on key issues, safeguarding shared interests, and highlighted Egypt’s role in boosting ties between China and both Arab countries and the African continent.

The Chinese president acknowledged the significant roles that both China and Egypt play as members of the Global South. He called for heightened coordination on international matters, enhanced multilateral cooperation, and joint endeavors to advance global peace and stability. This visit is anticipated to further solidify political and economic relations between Beijing and Cairo, potentially unlocking new opportunities for collaboration in trade, infrastructure, technology, and other fields.

Concluding his remarks, Xi expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Egypt in building upon the seven decades of diplomatic relations, aiming to inject new vitality into their comprehensive strategic partnership. This visit is seen as a pivotal moment to deepen existing ties and explore new frontiers of cooperation between the two nations.
