In a significant move to embrace the future of education, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an has unveiled a comprehensive four-year plan aimed at integrating artificial intelligence into the city’s classrooms. Allocating NT$9.2 billion (US$288 million), this initiative seeks to prepare students for an era increasingly dominated by AI technologies.
The ambitious project will see smart screens installed in every classroom, alongside the enhancement of digital learning platforms with AI-powered assistants. These upgrades are set to transform the educational landscape, offering improved AI teaching tools to both students and educators. A pivotal element of this plan is the creation of an AI Education Center at Beitou Shilin Technology Park, which will spearhead teacher training, curriculum development, and foster cooperation between educational institutions and industry partners.
Beyond infrastructure upgrades, the initiative will introduce students to a variety of advanced technologies such as robotics, drones, and AI systems. This hands-on experience will be further enriched by opportunities to work with edge computing systems equipped with graphics processing units (GPUs), providing a practical understanding of cutting-edge tech developments.
The focus of this educational overhaul extends beyond technical skills, emphasizing the importance of responsible technology use, digital literacy, and data privacy. The enhanced learning platforms are designed not only to support independent student learning but also to alleviate the administrative burdens on teachers, such as exam grading.
