China’s foreign trade has shown remarkable growth in the first eight months of the year, with the total value of imports and exports of goods reaching 34.78 trillion yuan, equivalent to $5.18 trillion. This represents a significant 17.6% increase compared to the same period last year.
During this time, exports climbed by 14.6% to 20.17 trillion yuan, while imports saw an even more substantial rise of 22%, totaling 14.61 trillion yuan. August proved to be a particularly strong month for trade, as the total value of goods imported and exported surged by 19.8% year-on-year, amounting to 4.65 trillion yuan. Exports for the month increased by 18.6%, and imports grew by 21.7%.
Both exports and imports have consistently demonstrated double-digit growth over the previous four months. Notably, the growth rate for imports has surpassed that of exports for the past six months, indicating robust domestic demand and economic activity.
This sustained momentum in trade activity highlights China’s dynamic role in the global economy, as the nation continues to experience substantial increases in both the import and export sectors.
