Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday issued a challenge to the global community, led by the United States: replicate the success of the Gaza peace plan to finally end the war in Ukraine. He positioned the Middle East deal as a new benchmark for what is possible through decisive international leadership.
Zelensky explicitly praised US President Donald Trump’s role, suggesting that this achievement should serve as an inspiration and a catalyst for action in Europe. “It is important that President Trump succeeded… Undoubtedly, the right actions by the United States can also help bring an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine,” he affirmed.
His diplomatic calendar reflects this new push. Zelensky detailed a recent phone call congratulating Trump and a subsequent, lengthy strategy session with Finnish President Alex Stubb. These conversations are part of a broader effort to harness the current diplomatic climate for Ukraine’s benefit.
The plea for peace is made more poignant by the continuing violence from Russia. Zelensky provided a grim tally of recent attacks, including a drone barrage and a devastating bombing of a Kharkiv hospital that injured dozens of civilians. This, he argues, is why the world cannot afford to lose focus.
Consequently, his appeal is not just for diplomatic engagement but for military empowerment. Zelensky’s insistence on the need for advanced air defense systems is a central part of his vision. He believes that only by neutralizing Russia’s aerial threat can Ukraine force Moscow into “genuine negotiations.”
