Taiwan and the U.S. state of Kansas have formalized a new trade partnership aimed at enhancing economic collaboration across key industries. The memorandum of understanding (MOU), signed at the Kansas State Capitol, involves cooperation in sectors such as aerospace, aviation, biotechnology, animal health, precision agriculture, and advanced air mobility. This agreement was signed by Debby Huang, the Director-General of Taiwan’s representative office in Denver, and Kansas Lieutenant Governor David Toland.
The agreement seeks to lay the foundation for mutually beneficial partnerships and expand commercial opportunities between Taiwan and Kansas. The collaboration is expected to foster further engagement between businesses and institutions in both regions, building on previous discussions that Kansas officials had during visits to Taiwan. These discussions covered areas like investment, advanced technology, education, and talent development.
In a related development, the University of North Georgia is establishing a Taiwan studies center to bolster academic cooperation between Taiwan and the United States. This initiative will concentrate on international relations, defense education, and Indo-Pacific security, facilitating research, policy discussions, and educational exchanges.
During the signing, Taiwanese representatives emphasized the importance of maintaining stability across the Taiwan Strait, citing Taiwan’s critical role in global semiconductor and advanced technology supply chains. This focus on stability is pivotal to ensuring continued global industrial resilience.
Furthermore, Taiwan, in collaboration with its international partners, is preparing for next year’s activities under the Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF). The planned topics for these activities include maritime security, disaster preparedness, supply chain resilience, and artificial intelligence. These initiatives underscore efforts to deepen Taiwan’s economic, educational, and strategic partnerships with both the United States and other international allies, promoting cooperation in emerging technologies and regional security.
