TOKYO – Hotel Okura Co., Ltd. has announced that it will open its first-ever Okura Resort property in Japan, with the debut of Okura Resort Hakone Gora scheduled for 2029. The project represents a significant milestone for the company as it strengthens its presence within Japan’s highly competitive luxury hospitality market.
The new resort is being developed in collaboration with Nishimatsu Construction Co., Ltd., following an operational management agreement finalized in July 2025. Under this partnership, Nishimatsu Construction will oversee development and ownership, while Hotel Okura will manage the property under its premium resort brand.
Hakone Gora, long recognized as one of Japan’s leading hot spring destinations, welcomes close to 20 million visitors annually. Its picturesque landscape, cultural appeal, and geothermal resources make it an ideal location for Hotel Okura’s newest venture.
“Our decision to introduce the Okura Resort brand in Hakone reflects the destination’s unmatched cultural and environmental value,” stated President Toshihiro Ogita, emphasizing the group’s commitment to offering authentic Japanese hospitality.
The resort will feature a distinct “Forest Hideaway” design by renowned designer Gwenael Nicolas, incorporating natural materials and panoramic views. Its 58 guest rooms, each equipped with a private open-air bath fed by Owakudani Hot Spring, will set a new benchmark for luxury in the region. Guests will also enjoy indoor bathing facilities, saunas, a high-end teppanyaki restaurant, and a refined bar lounge.
This new opening marks a strategic expansion of Hotel Okura’s portfolio and reinforces its dedication to delivering elevated experiences rooted in Japanese tradition.
