England’s Response: Archer’s Return Signals Aggressive Stance Against India

Date:

England is signaling an aggressive response to India’s dominant display at Edgbaston by bringing Jofra Archer back into the squad for the third Test. Replacing the injured Josh Tongue, Archer’s return is a clear indication of England’s intent to unsettle the Indian batsmen with genuine, raw pace.
Ben Stokes, England’s skipper, highlighted Archer’s resilience, calling him “very, very determined” despite his recent injury-plagued career and limited game time. Archer’s presence is expected to provide a much-needed, match-winning pace that has largely been missing from England’s bowling attack so far in the series.
Archer’s Test career has been marked by significant periods on the sidelines, with his average Test overs per year since debut standing at under 11. Despite this history, Stokes expressed confidence in his bowler, stating, “I don’t see that being negative… expectations are understandable,” acknowledging the heightened anticipation surrounding his comeback.
While Archer’s first public appearance on Wednesday involved only light fast-bowling, the real test of his readiness will come under match conditions. His ability to deliver consistently at 96 mph offers England a potent weapon to dismantle India’s seemingly impregnable top-order and shift the momentum of the series.
