Blue Jays Strike Gold with High School Star JoJo Parker at No. 8

Date:

The Toronto Blue Jays have landed a potential franchise cornerstone by drafting JoJo Parker with the eighth overall pick. Hailing from Purvis High School in Mississippi, Parker becomes the school’s first-ever top-10 MLB draft choice.
The 18-year-old shortstop batted .489, smashed 13 home runs, and racked up 35 RBIs and 64 runs this season. His 30 stolen bases were just as crucial in bolstering the Tornadoes’ championship bid.
On the mound, Parker also delivered, posting a robust 8-2 record with a 2.77 ERA and 89 strikeouts in only 55.2 innings.
While he is set for college baseball at Mississippi State, the Blue Jays hope to convince Parker to bring his vast potential to Toronto.
