In a major shake-up of its all-time leaderboard, Netflix has a new number one film. The animated musical “KPop Demon Hunters” has officially surpassed “Red Notice” with a staggering 236 million views, crowning a new and unexpected king of the streaming service.
The film, released in June, follows the K-pop group Huntr/x, who lead a double life as demon slayers. Its unique blend of music, action, and animation has struck a chord globally, leading to its historic viewership numbers. It has outperformed films by Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Leonardo DiCaprio.
While “KPop Demon Hunters” is the champion of views, it ranks third in terms of total watch time. Its 23 billion minutes watched puts it just behind the longer films “Red Notice” (27 billion minutes) and “Don’t Look Up” (25 billion minutes), illustrating a key difference in viewership metrics.
The film’s success story is further amplified by its acclaimed soundtrack, which made Billboard history. With critics praising its animation and writing, and a sequel confirmed, “KPop Demon Hunters” has become a true global phenomenon.
