China-Germany Partnership Advances in Technological Innovation and Collaboration

Date:

In a significant move to bolster bilateral cooperation, China and Germany are enhancing their business and technology collaboration, with innovation now being exchanged in both directions rather than predominantly flowing from Germany to China. This development was highlighted in a new joint research report unveiled in Beijing, underscoring a shift in the dynamics of their partnership.

The report was presented at the China-Germany (China-Europe) Hidden Champions Forum 2026, held in Beijing’s Shunyi district. The forum attracted over 400 executives and business representatives from Europe and China, providing a platform for discussing the future of bilateral cooperation. According to the findings, a considerable number of European companies aim to expand their operations in China, with 38 percent of surveyed firms planning to increase their research and development investment in the country. Furthermore, 40 percent of these companies intend to grant their Chinese branches more operational independence from their German headquarters.

Illustrating the growing technological collaboration, leading Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers such as Li Auto and NIO have established research and design centers in Germany. This move signifies a two-way exchange of expertise and innovation, enhancing the technological ties between the two nations.

The forum also saw the introduction of a public service station aimed at assisting businesses in overcoming technical trade barriers. Additionally, a new partnership initiative was launched to encourage German and European companies to engage in Beijing’s economic and technological cooperation zone in Shunyi, further cementing the city’s role as a hub for international science and technology.

Beijing’s commitment to strengthening ties with German businesses was emphasized by Tang Wenhong, who outlined plans to support collaborative efforts and attract more innovative companies. These initiatives aim to reinforce Beijing’s status as an international center for science and technology, fostering a robust environment for future joint ventures.
